HiCHRP Statement of Unity

Adopted 8.29.2019

The Hawaii Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines, in unity with ICHRP-US, stands with the Filipino people’s struggle for peace, genuine land reform, social and economic justice, true independence, and freedom from foreign intervention.  We are part of the global movement to defend human rights in the Philippines, Hawaii, the United States, and around the globe.

In support of human rights, we oppose all forms of US support and military aid to the repressive Duterte regime in the Philippines.  We resolve that every increase in human rights violations, detentions and killings by the Philippine government’s armed forces and police will be met with heightened efforts to stop the killings and end all attacks against the Filipino people.

We will stand with the Filipino people in their search and struggle for justice, hoping to spread awareness of their situation to Hawaii’s Filipinos and the larger community.  In so doing, we hope to contribute to the realization of justice and a genuine and lasting peace in the Philippines.

Since the Filipino people and Hawaii’s indigenous people, the Kanaka Maoli, face similar challenges brought about by colonialism, illegal occupation and militarism, we also unite with the Kanaka Maoli struggle for ea, sovereignty, land rights, and a better, more just and equitable society for all.
